Applying To Get A Grant For Homes

 Powered by Max Banner Ads

I always heard about people getting grants for various things like businesses or school, but I never thought there would be offers out there that specifically give grants for homes.  After further research, it turns out there are places that offer you grants for homes, but you have to know where to look and how to apply for them.

Where does one begin? My advice is to understand the process first, then find and apply for grants second.

The Process of a Getting a Grant For Homes

Here is how the process basically works.  There are various federal and private agencies out there offering money in the form of “grants” to individuals and companies.  For homes, it will mostly be federal departments offering these grants, particularly now with all the government mandated recession relief funding available.

You’ll need to use grant search services, where you basically can get a list of the available grants out there, as well as the specifics about the grant, including amount, requirements, deadlines, etc.  Once you find a list, you will need to apply for them.

Applying for a grant is similar in thinking to putting together a resume for a job:  You must understand how to present yourself properly, especially in the area of how to write you application, called “grant writing”, that will talk to the grant company properly, and be as appealing as possible. I used this ebook to help me write the proposal.

So, start researching your options, and get as much information as you can.  And if you have a person in your family familiar with grant writing, or is at least good in writing, contact them and tell them what you’re up to.  They may be able to help.

Where to find GRANTS/ SCHOLARSHIPS for re-training?

I am looking to re-train, for the field of electrician, but I dont know where to find NON-REPAYABLE funds, to cover my training.

I am, specifically, looking for funds to cover a train-at-home program (think mail order).

With todays prices, I will need about $2,000.00, to cover schooling costs. Any suggestions on where to apply for such GRANTS, for home-study classes?

****Important Note: What I am N-O-T seeking is LOANS. I am only looking for GRANTS, or SCHOLARSHIPS.

Any suggestions?

You can get info about such college scholarships and grants online here – scholarships.onlinewebshop.net

where can I find legitimate sources for grants[for home improvement and etc.]?

would like to find a legitimate source to apply for a grant for home improvement .does anybody know of one or used one.this would be for weatherizing and maybe going green. we have also heard of grants for like additions on to homes.any input would be greatly appreciated .I’m tired of giving all my money to the electric company and I’d like a small room added on for the computer.thanks guys

no such thing as grants for that anymore – closest you will get is federal income tax credits (maybe up to 30% of your expenses) for energy savings, which includes insulation and weatherizing – go to www.irs.gov and search in the publications section for "tax credits"

Whats the easiest way of getting government grants for home improvements?

Russell:

The ads that you have probably seen offering "government grants" for "home improvements" and other forms of personal financial assistance, are part of a large-scale scam. It’s been around forever, but the scam artists are out in droves, at the moment, doing their best to take advantage of hard-working people who are suffering through this national economic depression.

The federal government does not offer GRANTS for home improvement, but that doesn’t mean that there is no help available.

I think you might find this page useful as a resource to learn about the government aid that IS available to people looking for home improvements: http://usgovinfo.about.com/library/weekly/aa061100e.htm

If you want to see something sad – the company that hosts this particular page – like most web portals – sells ads to cover expenses. What you’ll see, at the bottom of the page, is ads for the very "grant" scams that the page, itself, is warning you against.

You can also read the information offered directly at the government’s Housing and Urban Development site, here: http://www.hud.gov/improvements/index.cfm

Good luck!

what are some of the goverment ( .gov) sites for housing grants?

The Housing and Urban Development in their Grants Available page makes it clear that they do not provide grants to individuals — hence no grants for a person to buy a home http://www.hud.gov/grants/index.cfm

"While HUD does not offer direct grants or loans to individuals, we do work through local governments and non-profit organizations to make financial assistance and counseling available."

You can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov – these are two FREE sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support your purposes.

Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants — all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently.

Note though that these grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments. Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT – Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program. Individuals especially for personal purposes are not eligible for federal grants.

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women’s Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women’s business center that will train women entrepreneurs

The government is NOT in the business of giving away free money for the sake of giving away money. Grants are free, but it means OBLIGATION. You will be obligated to do as the grant sets out to do. Grants have objectives, and your purpose must fit the objective of the grant.

For one, you have to write the grant application and the grant application is not a simple document – you have to explain how your purpose for applying for the grant fits well with the objectives set out by the grant. Grants have objectives, and the grant applications that best captures the grant’s objectives are approved.

There is a stringent review process through a committee composed of federal employees and selected experts in the field. You will compete with other applicants for the grant money, and this grant review committee will evaluate the merits of each proposal. Only those that they feel exemplifies the objective of the grant will be approved.
